It does have a proper encoder - which is stepped and has push button functionality too - so that's nice to see. The rotaries are of a continuous nature but feel a little flimsy. I'm not sure how well the pads will work but they have that clip-launch feature so I'm hoping they will work with FL11 - which I should get round to installing some time this month.

Indeed, the octave shift is above the pitch and mod wheels. I'm definitely going to test it out a little later tonight after working a few more hours. I'm interested to hear what you think of yours, Unaspected. So, for $20 more it looks like the better buy. There are a few other features, (like the drumpads doubling as an arpegiator) that the Novation Impulse has over the M Audio. It has an easy toggle to move the keyboard range up or down, whereas you have to switch banks on the M Audio. The keys and pads on the Novation supposedly have a much smoother action than the M Audio Axiom pro. And the Novation Impulse is looking pretty darn good. But I have looked at a few reviews since I posted this. I can't try it, because if I want one, the store will have to order it. It's cheap, so I'm not expecting it to be too good in that department. I am just a little concerned with how the keys will feel to play. But that's good to know you have no trouble with it in FL. I didn't know M Audio was previously Midiman.
